The PLUG-IN SOLAR CONFERENCE is the first international platform for the plug-in solar industry. Its goal is to connect stakeholders from the industry, regulatory bodies, policy and civil society that are actively involved in the progress of the plug-in solar revolution in Europe. Thus, it aims to establish plug-in solar as a fundamental part of the European energy transition.
Background
Plug-in solar – meaning the production, storage, consumption and other usage of solar energy via devices that laypeople can connect to the grid and operate – is a rapidly growing market segment of the solar industry. With over two million active devices and specific federal regulations, municipal and statewide subsidies and specific industry standards, Germany is on the forefront of this development, but other countries are following suit. Manufacturers and distributors from Europe, Asia and the US have entered the market with force and a lively and competitive market environment has developed.
However, the regulation landscape and enforcement strategies in Europe remain vastly heterogeneous. In order to guarantee sufficient product quality and safety, sufficient market permeability for a healthy industry as well as a seamless integration of plug-in solar into the European power grid, harmonization and alignment of regulations and standards is of paramount importance. Moreover, trends in the market development in Germany have shown that cooperation in the industry can leverage indispensable synergies and maximize the effectiveness in tackling the challenges of a technically highly innovative, communication intensive product in a, for the most part, still heavily bureaucratized environment and a globalized market.
Topics to Tackle
In order for plug-in solar to establish itself as a fundamental and prevalent part of the energy transition in Europe and abroad, a number of central topics have to be addressed. Among these are
- quality and safety standards,
- a unified EU regulatory framework to create a common market for vendors,
- a seamless, EU-wide integration of plug-in installations into the grid,
- the simplification of administrative processes for small scale plug-in solar installations on national and EU level,
- the creation of adequate incentives for the promotion of plug-in solar installations.
Our program takes these and other issues into account and provides participants with qualified answers and solutions from industry experts from all over the EU and abroad.
